Wildland Fuels Reduction Program (free defensible space inspections and dumpster/trailer disposal)

Homeowners

Carson City Fire Department, Wildland Fuels Division (Carson City is a consolidated city-county)

No published award amount

Running since 2006, this program gives Carson City property owners in the Wildland Urban Interface a free defensible space inspection - a hazardous fuels assessment covering vegetation, clearance and construction standards - and, if you qualify, a free dumpster or trailer dropped at your home to fill with the vegetation you clear. The district hauls it away; dumpsters are typically delivered Thursday and picked up Monday. Only vegetative yard waste is allowed, no construction or manmade material, and no bags. Funded through Bureau of Land Management grants. The trailer and dumpster slots are popular and often booked months out. Call 775-887-2210.
