Active fire map FAQ

Is this active fire map live?

Yes. The map pulls current wildfire perimeters and incident locations directly from the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) each time you load it. For official evacuation orders, follow Watch Duty, local fire authorities, and 911.

What’s the difference between a fire map and a fire risk map?

A fire map shows what’s burning right now. A fire risk map shows how prone a place is to wildfire over time, regardless of current fires. FireRisk.ai does both — see the live map here, or check any address for its 0–100 risk score.

Are these all the wildfires in the U.S.?

The map shows incidents reported to NIFC’s interagency feed, which covers the large and significant fires fire agencies are tracking. Very small or brand-new local fires may not appear immediately — your local authority and Watch Duty are fastest for those.

How do I find wildfires near me?

Tap “Show wildfires near me” above the map and allow location access — the map recenters on your area so you can see current fires, perimeters, and smoke nearby. Your location stays in your browser and isn’t stored. You can also pan and zoom the map manually, or open your state’s fire map below.
