Is this Canadian fire map live?

It shows the newest official data there is — re-pulled every few minutes from Natural Resources Canada's national fire feed (CWFIF), which Canadian fire agencies update on their own schedule, typically every couple of hours. Each flame marks where a fire was reported, not where its edge is right now — real fires spread, markers don't move. For evacuation orders and emergencies, follow your provincial emergency authorities and call 911.

Why don't the Canadian fires have names?

Canada's national feed identifies fires by their official agency ID (like 2026-N61613) rather than a name — so that's what we show. Province-level pages with named fires, starting with British Columbia, are in the works.

What do OC, BH, and UC mean?

They are the stage-of-control codes Canadian agencies report: OC = Out of control, BH = Being held, UC = Under control. Canada reports control stages, not U.S.-style containment percentages — we show the official code exactly as reported, with its plain-English meaning.

Can I get FireRisk alerts for a Canadian address?

Not yet — Canadian alert coverage is in progress. U.S. addresses can get free fire alerts today. When Canadian alerts launch they will run on the same official feeds this map uses.
