New for 2026: Grand County property owners who have had a home ignition zone assessment can get back half the cost (max $1,000) of hardening the structure itself — gravel and landscape fabric in the first five feet, 1/8-inch metal vent screens, replacing combustible fencing, flashing between the house and attached structures, and ignition-resistant deck, siding or roof materials. Limited pilot funding, accepted first-come; reimbursement can take up to 60 days.
Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) Cost-Share Program

50% reimbursement — up to $3,000 for Zones 1, 2 and egress, plus up to $3,000 for Zone 3 (per 1.5 acres); $6,000 maximum per property
Grand County property owners can get back half of what they spend clearing defensible space around the house and along the driveway, up to $6,000 total. A free home ignition zone assessment from GCWC or your fire district is required before any work starts, and you must finish Zones 1-2 and the egress before Zone 3 work qualifies. It is a reimbursement — you pay first, then submit before/after photos, invoice and proof of payment. First-come, first-served each spring while funds last.
