Free to residents of Jackson County Fire District 3. By appointment, district personnel bring a chipper to your property and chip brush and branches you have piled for defensible space (they run the chipper — it cannot be dropped off for your own use). The district also runs a free spring drop-off site for residential green waste at its Dodge Bridge station, and free walk-around home wildland assessments with a prevention specialist. No cash grant, but it removes the disposal cost, which is usually the expensive part of defensible-space work. Schedule at 541-826-7100.
