How EFFIS maps wildfires

Satellite-mapped, not agency reports
No official name or containment status — we show the nearest settlement and voivodeship.
Sizes in hectares
One hectare is about 2.5 acres.
The flame marks the centre, not the edge
Real fires spread between satellite passes. For emergencies, call 112.

Poland wildfires — FAQ

Is this Poland fire map live?

It shows the newest satellite mapping available — EFFIS (the European Forest Fire Information System) re-maps fires several times a day, and we check it every few minutes. Each flame marks the centre of a satellite-detected burn area, not a live fire's edge. For emergencies, call 112.

Why don't the fires have names?

EFFIS maps fires from satellite imagery rather than agency incident reports, so records carry the nearest settlement and voivodeship instead of an official fire name.

What does "hectares mapped" mean?

The burnt area satellites have detected so far for that fire — updated as new passes come in. It is a satellite measurement, not an agency estimate, and fires under a few hectares may not appear.

Can I get FireRisk alerts for a Polish address?

You can sign up today, but FireRisk alerts still run on official U.S. and Canadian data — EFFIS coverage for Poland is in active development and will switch on for your address automatically once it's ready.
