A three-county cost-share (Ravalli, Missoula, and Mineral) that helps private landowners pay for thinning and fuel reduction in the wildland-urban interface. Ravalli County has the highest wildfire risk to structures of any county in Montana, and this is the main non-federal channel there. You submit an application online or by PDF, then wait for a forester to contact you, which the RC&D says can take several weeks. The forester does a site assessment and writes a cost-share agreement. Individual landowners, groups of homeowners, and whole communities can all apply, and applications are accepted year-round. The RC&D does not publish a fixed cost-share percentage or dollar cap on its program page, and states plainly that "All Cost Share Projects are Subject to Grant Funding Availability" — so treat funding as real but not guaranteed.
